Let's Talk Kindle Vella
If you have yet to hear of Kindle Vella, you have come to the correct place. This is Amazon's serialized reading platform which was introduced in April of 2021. These are stories told one episode at a time in 600-5,000 words. The first three episodes are free. If you like, then read on for a small fee paid in tokens. 600 words would equal six tokens and 5,000 words would cost 50 tokens. Amazon starts you out with 200 free tokens. After that, tokens are $1.99 for 200 tokens. The more you purchase in bulk, the less they cost. If you are reading on your laptop like me, the tokens are displayed in the upper right of the page.
The best way to describe Kindle Vella is to think of it like watching a series or the afternoon soaps on TV. You tune in each day or night or maybe weekly to see the next episode. Some Vella stories have many episodes posted, so you can binge-read the episodes. All in all, I have found the new platform entertaining when I have a short break to read. Because the first three episodes are free, I have been trying out different genres.
I have started using Kindle Vella to share my stories as I write them—one episode at a time. The books in these series are stand-alone stories. So far, book 6 of The Marston Series, Dead Silence, is on Vella with six live episodes. Book 2 of The Kendra Carlisle Series, Rush to Judgement, is also on Vella with nine live episodes.
